One among the foremost Hindu pilgrimages, Pushkar is in fact much more than just a religious destination. It is also popular among the tourists for myriad other reasons, Pushkar lake also being one of them. There are about 400 temples in the place and Pushkar is the only place to have a temple which is dedicated to Lord Brahma. The fascinating lake of Pushkar is set in an equally fascinating location as it is surrounded by sand dunes on one side and by hills on the other three sides. The area surrounding Pushkar lake is the site of the famous religious and cattle fair which is held every year in the month of October or November. Though there are several legends in circulation regarding origin of Pushkar, the common thread that runs through all of them is that all the legends are associated with Lord Brahma.
